Bus service diversion

14 July, 2010 at 15:43

Due to essential road works by Southern Gas at the junction of Sackville Road and Church Road, westbound buses are being diverted into Westbourne Gardens. This will be effective from 12th July and is likely to last for up to 3 weeks.

During the period of work four way temporary traffic signals will be used and the westbound services 49, 49A and 93 will operate from Church Road into New Church Road right into Westbourne Gardens and then left into Portland Road and the normal route. The diverted services will observe all stops within the diversion including the temporary stop that will be placed at the northern end of Westbourne Gardens. Eastbound services are not affected.

In the autumn of 2009 Southern Gas Networks carried out extensive repairs to their mains in this junction. Initial attempts to seal the mains by spraying them with a sealant were unfortunately not successful due to the age of the mains and the design of the joints. This resulted in each leaking joint having to be individually repaired, which unfortunately protracted the works.  These works did however successfully repair all the leaks present at that time.

However a further leak has now unfortunately been detected which is serious enough to require an immediate repair.
