Whitehawk and Manor Farm Community Conference
On 30th June a community conference is being held at the Valley Social Centre on Whitehawk Way between 10.30 and 6.30.
The aim is to bring together existing groups like the Health Forum and the Whitehawk Crime Prevention Forum under an umbrella neighbourhood forum to identify local needs and priorities and campaign for funding and resources.
The day will kick off with a meeting of the Crime Prevention Forum - I was re-elected as Chair today for the sixth consecutive year - at 10.30 followed by a buffet lunch. There will then be sessions on housing, children, families and schools, health and the environment before another buffet at 5.30. It's a chance to bring together residents, professionals, schools, the voluntary sector and other organisations to work on common issues and set up an action plan.

Wellsbourne Health Centre
I've been busy along with ward colleagues following up on issues relating to the new Wellsbourne Health Centre in Whitehawk, raised at last week's Whitehawk Health Forum meeting.
We will be meeting officers to resolve problems with the pathway to the new centre, and are asking that bus stops be closer to the path. Whilst it seems unlikely we will secure a bus service along the Whitehawk Road spur leading to the centre, I'm hopeful about getting some complaints over the new on-site pharmacy addressed. New signs to the footpath and to the centre from Whitehawk Road/Whitehawk Way should be up in a week or two at my request.
Thanks to our local Sergeant
We were sorry to say goodbye last month to PS Paul Gossland, who has served the people of East Brighton well for much of the last fourteen years. Huge credit must go to him for the reductions in crime and disorder on his patch over recent years, he will be sorely missed. As he has been transferred to custody, I hope not to see him in a formal capacity!
Communities Against Drugs
As part of my work as Chair of the Whitehawk and Manor Farm Crime Precvention Forum, I was really pleased to be able to present certificates to three of the four local young people who have completed the NCFE Level 1 Certificate in Drug Awareness at an event this afternoon.
As part of the course the young people designed a billboard poster giving a message on the risks of cannabis use. The course was run in partnership with ru-ok? The Crew Club, Kickz, and Communities Against Drugs.
