East Brighton update
Aside from my work as Opposition Spokesperson at last Monday's Community Safety Forum and in preparation for this week's Council meeting as Chief Whip, I have been working on several ward issues this week. Following a fire in a north Whitehawk block I have asked that housing officers and the Fire & Rescue Service carry out a fire safety audit to see what improvements can be made.
I have asked officers to deal with an increase in the number of travellers and flytipping at the former BMX track on Wilson Avenue, and attended the monthly Craven Vale residents meeting.
At full Council this Thursday, ward colleagues and I will be raising several East Brighton issues, including the increasing pressure on the area around the Royal Sussex County Hopsital, when an estate warden will be appointed for Craven Vale, why the council's Conservative administration is disposing of Whitehawk Youth Centre, and how it plans to prevent any repeat of the theft of the Madeira Lift weathervane.
Safe As Houses Open Day
Safe As Houses supports women, children and young people in East Brighton experiencing domestic abuse. On Monday 19th November it will be holding an open day/drop in at Whitehawk Youth Centre (top floor, Safety Net offices) between 12.30 and 3.30pm. Visitors can meet the team, talk about their work and hear a 5 minute talk on the project at 12.45, 1.30 and 2.30. Drinks and a light lunch will be provided.
Safe As Houses is a registered charity and part of the Brighton and Hove Women's Refuge Project.
