Cleanup challenge on the Bristol Estate
Mucked in with residents, council staff, police and others this morning on the roads around the Bristol Estate behind the Sussex County hospital. The team I was in pulled around ten bags full of rubbish from hedges at the back of the hospital, from areas not normally reached by cleaning teams. The event was a great success and all credit should go to those involved in organising the event and the day itself. The estate celebrates its' 50th Birthday in a few weeks time so it is good to see the area looking so clean.
Pride 2007
Another successful Pride yesterday, where for the first time I took part in the Parade - amazing how many people lined the route to watch on a very hot day. This is undoubtedly the biggest party the city hosts each year and must contribute enormously to the economy with shops, bars, hotels and restaurants doing very well from locals and visitors alike.
Of course the point of the day - as well as having fun - is to remind everyone that the LGBT residents of Brighton and Hove are an equal, integral and essential part of our city and have long contributed to making it the unique place that it is. Congratulations to everyone who took part, who organised it and who helped with the clean-up afterwards.
Crew Club Spaces for Sport
Looking forward to joining Albion players and staff later this week at the official opening of the new multi-use games area at the Crew Club in Whitehawk, where I am a trustee. The project has been backed by the Albion, Barclays Spaces for Sport and the city council, and it really is a fantastic facility already well used by local young people.
