Ann Norman

I was born in Eaton Place, Brighton and went to school at the Convent of the Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic School in Eastern Road, Brighton.

My mother was a Conservative Party activist and in later years, a Brighton Borough Councillor and so I started helping her to deliver political leaflets at a very early age. In time, the interest in politics increased and I became Chairman of Kemp Town Young Conservatives, which incidentally was not just a dating agency as has frequently been reported.

My working career was spent firstly at Roedean School and then the University of Sussex and after four unsuccessful attempts to be elected to Brighton Borough Council was elected to represent Westdene Ward in 1996 in what would become in 1997, the newly formed Brighton and Hove Unitary Authority Council. Following Boundary changes which came into force in 2003, the boundary of Westdene Ward was extended and renamed Withdean Ward.

I am currently Chairman of the Governance Committee having previously been Lead Councillor for Finance and Resources (2007/2008) and before that Opposition Spokesperson on Adult Social Care and Health. Some years earlier, I was the Opposition Spokesperson on the Education Strategic Planning Functions Sub Committee.

I am married to Ken who is also a Councillor for Withdean Ward and away from politics, my hobbies are spending time with my friends, my cat and dogs and all kinds of gardening.
